What to do if there is a Fire in Your Forest

If there is a fire on or near your forest you should:

Contact the fire brigade (phone 112). Your Fire Plan should be kept up to date with relevant contact details.

Contact contractors who could assist with fire fighting (discuss with Fire Brigade leader).

Contact neighbours who might be impacted.

Report the fire to your local Garda station and ask that the cause be investigated.

Contact (if insured) your insurer / broker as soon as possible after the fire to begin the process of making your claim.

Inform your forester or forest manager who can guide you on various issues such as replanting - for instance permission is required from Forest Service prior to replanting.

Remember that if you do not replant following loss of forestry due to fire you may be liable to repay grants and premiums to the Forest Service, as well as being at the loss of income. Loss of Growth cover compensates you for the capital loss of your crop (no need to insure the land value). Reconstitution cover provides for cover towards replanting costs of your forestry.
